Based in the village of Rodney Stoke, Edcombe farm started life as a dairy farm, as many farms did, by Rosie's great grandfather. Unfortunately, Rosie's grandmother did not inherit the farming gene, so it skipped a generation and was taken over by Rosie's parents. They started out with a small beef herd and grew vegetables, including asparagus.
Today the farm is run by husband and wife team Rosie and James and they produce 100% grass fed slow grown lamb. Passionate about producing the best quality lamb, to some of the highest welfare standards in the world, all our products are organically reared, to the highest welfare standards. At Edcombe Farm we are doing our part for the planet, using organic farming methods to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible, supplying sustainability produced meats to our neighbours and helping them to do their part for the planet.
Rosie and James graduated from Harper Adams University in 2014 and moved to Rodney Stoke where James set up his tree surgery business and Rosie worked as a nutritional advisor. In 2018 they took over the day-to-day running of the farm, purchasing the animals and machinery in 2019 and starting their meat box venture.
In 2020 the difficult decision was made to sell the suckler herd of cows. Finding the balance between jobs, the flock and herd was proving a little difficult so the decision was made to funnel all energy into the flock. That's not to say cattle won't feature in the future of Edcombe Farm, but for now it's all about the sheep.
James continues to run the farm alongside his full time job as a tree surgeon so Rosie now looks after the day to day running of the farm, whilst looking after their daughter. As you can imagine, life is busier than ever, and there is no mistaking that it is hard at times. But when the sun is shinning and they can look back at everything they have achieved all the hard work is completely worth it.
Meet the team
This is our team; Pippin, Blue, James, Rosie and Annabelle.
Blue is our resident sheepdog, Pippin is more of a gate blocker (he's actually scared of the sheep!) - but he LOVES their poo!
