Beef Flat Ribs

Super easy to make, all you need is time. This dish is a great way of using the flat ribs that come in our slow cooker box. If you don't have a slow cooker then you can use cook low and slow in the oven - using a slow cooker however is energy saving and therefore cost saving!


This recipe can be enjoyed all year round, serve with baked potatoes and vegetables in the winter or baked potatoes and salad in the summer.

Serves 2-3

Cooking time 4-5hrs


For the ribs

1 pack of Edcombe Farm beef flat ribs

1 onion, chopped

1 head garlic, cut in half horizontally

Salt & pepper


For the sauce

1 onion, chopped

1 clove garlic

2 red chillies

150g light muscovado sugar

300g tomato sauce

150g chipotle ketchup

150ml dark soy sauce



1. Place the ribs is a slow cooker, cover with water and add the onion, garlic and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook on low for 4hours


2. Pre-heat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.


3. Make the sauce by frying the onion until soft in a heavy bottom ban, once onion is soft add the garlic and chilli and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Add the sugar and cook until dissolved.


4. Add the tomato sauce, chipotle ketchup and soy sauce and simmer for 5 minutes or until thickened. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly. Transfer to a blender and pulse until smooth.


5. Remove the ribs from the slow cooker after the 4hrs and dip in the sauce, place the ribs ina roasting tin and pour on some more sauce. Place in the oven and cook for 15-20 minutes until the ribs are sticky.


6. Serve with baked potatoes and veg.
